Service to others is an essential component of Christian discipleship. As a Catholic High School, our mission is to provide education not just in the academic world, but also in the faith and teachings of Jesus Christ. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (2447) lists the Works of Mercy all Christians are called to perform.
“When we attend to the needs of those in want, we give them what is theirs, not ours. More than performing works of mercy, we are paying a debt of justice.
The works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessities. Instructing, advising, consoling, comforting are spiritual works of mercy, as are forgiving and bearing wrongs patiently. The corporal works of mercy consist especially in feeding the hungry, sheltering
the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead.”
As part of our mission to educate the students at SACHS, it is only natural to teach them about the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, and to incorporate these concepts into their life. Each student must complete at least 20 hours of service per year, with a total of eighty hours required for graduation.
Students may access a list of local agencies to work with through their Theology teacher or the Campus Minister or have submit their own suggestion for their place of work and have that approved by either their Theology teacher or the Campus Minister.
The following forms are for students to download and complete for their service hours. These are also available from their theology teachers.
