There are several ways students can more fully participate in the weekly Liturgy. Students serve in the roles of altar server, lector and commentators and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion weekly.
Altar Servers: Assist the celebrant and deacon at Mass in the Procession, the Missal, preparation of the altar, and other tasks associated with the Mass. This is open to all who are Catholic. To serve, the student must provide evidence that they have received First Communion. Service is scheduled on a rotating basis and training is provided. Prior service in a parish is not required. It is preferred to have two altar servers per Mass.
Lector /Commentator: These students proclaim the First Reading and Responsorial Psalm at each Mass as well as lead the Prayers of the Faithful. This is open to all who are Catholic. Training will be given. The student should possess a good command of vocabulary, although training is held and assistance with difficult readings is available. Reading is rotated among the students and duties. It is preferred to have two lectors (First Reading and Responsorial Psalm) and one commentator (leading the Prayers of the Faithful).
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: These students assist in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. This duty is open to all Catholic students. Student will be asked to show evidence of having received both First Communion and Confirmation to serve as an EME. No parish experience is required but is helpful. Training will be given individually for this service.
Any student who wishes to learn more about these roles and apply should contact Stephanie Rambaran at email@example.com.
